Volleyball Tryouts August 18-23rd at HS

If you are unable to make any of those 5 days, please email Coach Smart  rsmart@jecsd.org .  If we don't hear from you, you do not get to makeup that tryout date.


NEW/updated information 8/17/25 - Clear Up Confusion

Tryouts are "usually" the first 3 days and the teams are chosen. However this year, we will have to hold tryouts Monday - Friday.  Teams will be posted on the website by 5 pm on Friday.


ONCE SCHOOL STARTS

VARSITY practices at the High School 

Monday - Friday 3 pm - 5 pm (Wednesdays 2:15-4:15 varsity only)

Saturdays: 9 am - 11 am (unless we have a match the night before) 


JUNIOR VARSITY at Middle School

Monday - Friday 3:15 pm - 5 pm / Saturdays: TBA

JV will take a bus at 3 pm from high school to Middle School. 


Every player is expected at every practice.

    This season, our volleyball team will be collecting food items for our local JE food pantry. At each home game, please consider bringing a non-perishable food item, a small cash donation, or both. Thank you for your support!



Volleyball Player & Family Commitments

  • Summer Volleyball - attend as many as possible (this helps us evaluate and prepare for the season and determine which tryout you will attend JV or Varsity). - some have had great attendance, others -- not so much)
  • Varsity is working to defend a sectional championship as well as to earn a 3rd in a row league championship. 
  • Season starts Monday, August 18th
  • Players must attend all practices. Missing practice will affect your playing time.  BOTTOM LINE - If you miss any practice or any match, your playing time will be affected for upcoming matches.  We need ALL players at ALL practices and matches. (more to follow on this)
  • JV players must stay for 1 varsity set (home and away matches) and are required to help with varsity warmups. 
  • Varsity Players must be at JV Matches 30 minutes prior to their start time to help with JV warmups
  • All Varsity Players ride bus home (no exceptions)
  • Be prepared to spend about $50 on team shirts/gear.  Costs are subsidized based on participation with fundraising (i.e. fall fest cleanup, concession stand)
  • All players will volunteer in stadium concession stand (dates TBA)
  • Social Media - Keep it positive and remember it's a team sport.
  • Players - Negative posts on social media/texts/snapchat, etc. will result in suspension and possible dismissal from team.

  • All students must be in school by 8:00am to be eligible to participate (unless legal reason with note from doctor, dentist, or college official. That 8 am time may change -- waiting on official bell schedule.

Celebrate Our 2025 Seniors

Before the Match

Introductions of Seniors

Each senior and their family will be introduced before the warmup which is immediately
after the JV match (approximately 5:30 pm)


Seniors and their families meet in hall by the entrance near JE’s home bench.


Each player and her family will be introduced and will have their photo taken by the district
photographer. I believe we take an all senior and family photo -- so stay on the court.

After the Match

Speeches by teammates honoring seniors. 

All varsity players and their families, friends are invited to the cafeteria for pizza, chicken riggies, snacks, drinks and cake!

UNIFORMS - Handed out at 8:45. We will wear varsity jerseys / please wear black or navy shorts.  

Jerseys collected at end of day.  Tournament shirts handed out at end of day. Roster and numbers below.


Seating situation - Parents/families should bring chairs (camping style).   Limited extra seats available for spectators.

Club SyrV - Out of Westhill High School

From Karl Caputo - To help your athletes prepare for their next steps, we wanted to share that Club SyrV tryouts will be held from August 10th-14th this year. the registration link with more information.


Most questions about our programs can be answered at www.clubsyrv.com.


Additionally, we will offer position-specific training the week before club tryouts. This training is open to anyone, regardless of club affiliation or whether they play club volleyball. It is already half full and will probably close out within the next week or so.
